Ten episodes feels like a fun little milestone for this project, which as been challenging and time-consuming but also incredibly rewarding thus far. I set out to follow my curiosity without worrying too much about the structure, theme across guests, marketing the show, or little things you’re supposed to do (like video!).
In the process, I’ve found a style that I enjoy and even a tagline to go with it: conversational portraits of original people (across technology, media, business, and creativity). I’m not sure there are many more themes than that yet, and the guest list is (and will surely continue to be) eclectic. Alas, people seem to be enjoying the conversations:
simultaneously intellectual and personal
jackson is natural conversationalist. yet, he keeps getting better at the craft, which he clearly loves. scary hours ahead for the rest of the league.
Something really unique in the style that is more about how someone thinks than what they are or what they are working on
been loving the pod, guest list is STACKED
i don’t think ive ever enjoyed a podcast more than yours
quality of guests + the topics you choose to discuss are next level
your podcasts are both a fertilizer and a soothing balm to my constantly active, reaching, jumping, heaping, running mind
Dialectic is deeply human, and one of my favorite recent podcast finds
That last one feels especially good. “Deeply human” is all I can hope for.
My original goal when I started this was to reach 21 episodes—a silly, but magic number—as it would put me in the top 1% of all podcasts. That’s still the plan. Almost half way there. In the meantime, all feedback and criticism is welcome, and if you’re enjoying the show, it would mean a lot if you shared it with a friend.
Anyway, onto the latest episode: Josh Wolfe.
Listen 🎧🎼: Dialectic Ep. 10: Josh Wolfe - Illuminating Tomorrow
Josh Wolfe is what you’d get if you combined a macro investor’s slow-thinking wisdom, a culture junky’s encyclopedic memory, a professional orator’s storytelling, a pro athlete’s competitiveness, and a little kid’s fervent curiosity.
Josh co-founded and runs Lux Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in scientific and technological frontiers like AI, space, biotech, robotics, and defense, to name a few. Josh combines expertise in markets, culture, and science to help entrepreneurs bring new technologies to the rest of us—often defying what was previously thought possible. Along the way, he wields stories and belief better than most, and is deeply thoughtful about how much they matter.
We also discuss attributes of great creative rebels, America’s position in tech and science, how governmental and educational institutions matter and can be improved, and how Josh is able to “funnel wide and filter high,” allowing him incredible breadth and depth.
I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening.
